About this speaker

First Lieutenant María Noel Paz was born on 4 July, 1988 in Montevideo, Uruguay.

She started her military career by joining the Military Academy as Cadet in 2010, and was commissioned as Alférez of Engineers branch on 2014. 

First Lieutenant M. Paz has been serving in the Army for 13 years.

As Engineer Jr. Officer, Lt. Paz was assigned at 3th Engineer Battalion on Paso de los Toros as a Platoon leader for the period of one year, and subsequently as Instructor in the Military High-School for three years. 

During her tour of duty as 1st Lt., she was assigned as a Platoon Leader in the 1st Engineer Brigade for one year and as Instructor in the Army Engineer Course in the Military Academy for one year.  

Currently, she has been posted as a Platoon Commander in the 3th Engineer Battalion.

Referring to the United Nations environment, 1st Lt. Paz has attended courses related to Conflict Related Sexual Violence, Women, Peace and Security, Gender, Environment and Engagement Platoon.

She has served in two United Nations peace operations in the field. 

In MONUSCO (DRC) on 2015 as Platoon Leader (Engineers Coy) and in UNDOF on 2021 (Arabic Republic of Syria) as Liaison Officer (Staff Officer).
